- cilantro
- hot chili pepper
- sweet pepper
- basil
- three tomatoes (two from the Frontier)
This weekend has been wet and rainy. Not a good weekend to put some plants in the ground. In fact, as we drove to the Farmer's Market, I had decided not to buy any plants that day. But once inside, I realized that most of the things for sale were plants. So I bought plants. They'll have to wait a few days for things to dry out a bit, but they're ready for the ground.
Nothing has sprouted yet from the seeds planted last week. I'm a bit impatient and I constantly worry that we planted the seeds too deep or packed the dirt down on top too hard. Growing from seed is truly a practice in patience. Chris's mom chopped up a cantaloupe and saved the seeds for me. Those will also go in the ground sometime next week.
We have also started a compost bin. Actually, Chris's mom has been the biggest contributer to the compost bin. It almost seemed like she went intentionally out of her way to produce vegetable garbage once I told her to save it. Now we have a Rubbermade bin (need to drill some holes in the lid) that contains layers of kitchen garbage with shredded news paper. It's really amazing how much vegetable waste we produce in a week. Hopefully, now I'll be able to put it to good use.
That's about it for the Garden Diary this week. Hopefully by next week I'll be able to wax poetically about the sprouts in the garden.
