FOR AMERICANS
Cindy Maddera
Well, Iâm going to do it. I am going to become a yoga teacher. My application and money has been mailed and I start classes in January. This is something Iâve wanted to do for a while now, but I havenât been able to find a program that I could get in to and not have to leave work for a month.
Most teacher training sessions require you to go somewhere for a month (200hrs) and in my case Iâd have to go out of state somewhere. Also thereâs the cost. Itâs expensive and they donât include living expenses along with that hefty price tag. I had just about decided that yoga teacher training wasnât going to happen for me in this life.
Then, I found a website through Yoga Alliance. Someone was offering a teacher training program right here in Oklahoma and itâs scheduled on weekends. Itâs kind of like joining the National Guard. For the next year and half, Iâll be spending one weekend a month in teacher training classes. Plus, I donât have to pay my tuition all up front; I can pay it out on a monthly basis.
Iâm really excited about this, but also a little nervous. Iâve met my yoga teacher and sheâs really intense. Iâm worried that I wonât be strong enough. A lot of times during my yoga practice these days, I just keep noticing all the poses that I struggle with or canât do at all (like arm balancing poses). Then I stop and say âwait a minuteâ?. This is yoga practice, not yoga perfection. Iâll be fine right? Itâs totally normal to be nervous. I mean I am technically going back to school, something I didnât think Iâd ever do again.
The above picture is a record Chris found for me during one of our thrift store shopping days. We both kind of saw it as a sign. Unfortunately I donât have a record player, but Iâm dying to know whatâs on that record because itâs FOR AMERICANS.
