FOR AMERICANS

For Americans

Well, I’m going to do it. I am going to become a yoga teacher. My application and money has been mailed and I start classes in January. This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while now, but I haven’t been able to find a program that I could get in to and not have to leave work for a month.

Most teacher training sessions require you to go somewhere for a month (200hrs) and in my case I’d have to go out of state somewhere. Also there’s the cost. It’s expensive and they don’t include living expenses along with that hefty price tag. I had just about decided that yoga teacher training wasn’t going to happen for me in this life.

Then, I found a website through Yoga Alliance. Someone was offering a teacher training program right here in Oklahoma and it’s scheduled on weekends. It’s kind of like joining the National Guard. For the next year and half, I’ll be spending one weekend a month in teacher training classes. Plus, I don’t have to pay my tuition all up front; I can pay it out on a monthly basis.

I’m really excited about this, but also a little nervous. I’ve met my yoga teacher and she’s really intense. I’m worried that I won’t be strong enough. A lot of times during my yoga practice these days, I just keep noticing all the poses that I struggle with or can’t do at all (like arm balancing poses). Then I stop and say “wait a minuteâ€?. This is yoga practice, not yoga perfection. I’ll be fine right? It’s totally normal to be nervous. I mean I am technically going back to school, something I didn’t think I’d ever do again.

The above picture is a record Chris found for me during one of our thrift store shopping days. We both kind of saw it as a sign. Unfortunately I don’t have a record player, but I’m dying to know what’s on that record because it’s FOR AMERICANS.
